I've been struggling in maths for the past few years and I really dislike it, how do I get interested and get better at it? GCSEs next year.

I feel like it depends on the person, but I truly started loving math when I started taking a step back and looking at math from a distance. For example, you don't have to be a good artist to appreciate art and the beauty of it. I started learning about the accomplishments of the people who discovered the topics I was learning. I saw the beauty that went into it. I also learned about the efforts people went into a proof and what it proved, and enjoying that, without fully understanding or being able to re-create that proof. I.E., Fermat's Last Theorem. It is a pretty cool story...but I don't understand that proof. Check it out.

Also, I found I loved math because of the reward. When you put the effort into a topic and you now have mastered a specific topic, or solved a specific problem, you know you have solved that problem. I started thinking of the problem like a puzzle. The rules of mathematics were the rules of the game and I had to solve this mathematical puzzle.

I hope this helps.

Check out the youtube Channel Numberphile. They have some pretty cool math videos.

Thanks very much for your input, I'll be sure to try all that out. What do you recommend I do to boost my grades in maths?

Google questions can be a help, but a tutor can help a lot. Do you know of a tutor near you? Your school may have some for free or a local tutor or even you could find one on facebook. There are also study guides online/books for a specific exam you are looking to take. Is it a specific topic you need help on? or just math overall?

I guess maths overall as I seem to complicate questions for myself. I'll try to get in touch with a tutor.

@helpmeinmaths thats good, let me know how it goes.

@Sean Gannon Thanks for your help!

Practice makes perfect. When I got my first math tutor for graduation exam revising (

https://upskillstutor.com.ng/tutors/mathematics/), I was preparing for the worst bc I really hated the subject. But the teacher I got quickly got into my mood and never tried to push on me. We got along fast and that's why I got into almost all lessons. So, it all depends mostly on your aims for the studying and on the teacher of course.
